Chair Used By General Meade At The Council Of War Gettysburg

“The Meade Chair”. This chair was in the Lydia Leister house when when General George Meade used the house as his Headquarters during the battle of Gettysburg. It was purportedly used by General Meade during the “council of war” held during the battle where Meade made the decision to stay in Gettysburg and fight it out with General Lee. The Widow Leister sold this chair to William Pfeffer, caretaker of Evergreen Cemetery in the late 19th century. It was passed down through the Pfeffer family and is now at The Gettysburg Museum of History. The curator of The Gettysburg Museum of History is a descendant of the Pfeffers of Gettysburg.IMG_2920IMG_2921Meades HQMeade Councel Of War
