George Washington Inaugural Button Found On The Gettysburg Battlefield

Portfolio Description

A George Washington Inaugural button. Washington Inaugural buttons were produced to celebrate the inauguration of our first President George Washington. They are scarce and highly sought after in the collector’s world. What makes this example even more interesting is it was recovered at the 2nd Corps Hospital on the Gettysburg Battlefield. One can only speculate how this artifact that would have been 74 years old at the time of the battle of Gettysburg landed at the 2nd Corps Hospital. Perhaps it was worn by a Civil War soldier who was wounded at Gettysburg as a patriotic button. Maybe a gift from an ancestor.
