Antique Battle Of Gettysburg Recovered Relic Box By John Good . This shadow box was made from early battlefield pickups obtained from locals. Every piece is labeled what part of the field it is from. It includes 2 Confederate belt plates and 2 hats along with all types of accouterments from the battle. The box is made from wood from different spots on the battlefield all pieces of the wood are labeled. Relic boxes were made in the last quarter of the 19th century and sold to GAR halls and small museums all over the country. The maker of this box, John Good also made other items from relics like desk sets, and carved battlefield wood monuments. Many of the old Gettysburg relic boxes were disassembled and sold because they tend to fall apart, relics fall off the box, or like this box the 2 hats deteriorated. Authentic relic boxes are very rare. This is the only surviving John Good box we know of.
