This U.S. Civil War belt buckle was worn by Michael Miller of Co. K 1st Pa. Reserves. This unit was local Gettysburg men who actually fought in the battle of Gettysburg. Nicknamed “The boys who fought at home”. Miller wrote to his wife about his brush with death. “A ball struck me on the plate on my waste belt. It bruised me a good deal, but I thank God it stuck me there for had it not hit the belt plate, I would this day be in the ground for it would have went through my bowels.” An amazing artifact that actually saved the life of a soldier who was from Gettysburg.
