Original WWII German Rail Road Eagle Removed From A Train Car By A U.S. Veteran Certified. This is in good used condition totally genuine German World War Two rail road eagle used to attach to the front of locomotives and box cars during the reign of the Third Reich. It measures 28.5 inches across and 13 inches tall which is the biggest of the standard eagles! . The threaded mounting bolts  marks remaining  (see photos). The reverse is marked in the center of the  eagle  and  as well as the early style maker mark. in good condition, still shows sharp details. The eagle is coated in gold and looks to be on there for a very long time. Some speculate the few gold examples that have popped up for sale over the years were painted after the war, while others claim that some of these were painted in different colors during the war, but probably impossible to prove either way. The “Wehag” marking is regularly seen on eagles. Often this marking is mistakenly thought to be “Wehog” which is not correct. Wehag is the shortened designation for “Werke der Stadt Halle AG” (a factory in the city of Halle), and a company that oversaw local traffic in the city, All observed eagles with this marking have a major flaw on the reverse. The reverse mold was probably broken and the parts were technically put back together. Molding experts state this flaw is the result of the repair. Normally a damaged eagle was to be destroyed according to rules from the RZA. There is also a visible break line on both wings. The wingspan of the shown specimen is 72.4 cm (28.5″) with a height of 39.5 cm. The lettering and oval are raised. Three studs are positioned on the reverse, as was normal for a car eagle. The interior is threaded (see close-up of the stud on the wreath). Also note the various close-ups of the front and reverse of the swastika wreath, the wings, as well as the “repaired spot” and the “Wehag” Many of the Wehag eagles have a major flaw on the reverse by the wing and on part of the chest. Molding experts indicate that this is the result of the reverse mold being repaired. This feature on the back that looks like scratches are in most of the Wehag large versions and one of the tail tale signs of an authentic  example! front has some rare  black original paint on the swastika..
