Original WWII Waffen SS WAFFEN-GRENADIER-DIVISION DER SS (RUSSICHE NR.1) COLLAR TAB. (Kragenpatte) Certified.  In August 1929 the SS, Schutz Staffel, (Protection Squad), incorporated the wear of rank collar tabs on the left side of the collar of the service tunic. The SS collar tabs were originally adopted from the earlier rank collar tabs as utilized by the SA, Sturmabteilung, (Storm Troops). Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler’s obsession with pagan runic symbolism manifested itself in runic emblems used by the SS, the most famous of which was the dual sig-runes used on the right hand side collar tabs as introduced in May 1933. Additional runic style collar tabs were introduced at various times through-out the war. The assorted SS collar tabs remained in usage through-out the war with a couple of minor alterations. The 29TH Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (Russiche Nr. 1), was formed in August 1944 from personnel from the Russian volunteer Kaminski Brigade. The division never reached divisional strength and was disbanded shortly after its formation due to atrocities committed by its personnel during the Warsaw Uprising. Due to the racial makeup of the divisional personnel Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler forbade wear of the SS runes on the collar insignia as he did not considered it to be a true SS division and a specially designed collar tab was introduced and produced, although it appears they were never issued due to the disbanding of the division. Of Note: In March 1945 the divisional numerical designation, “29” was allotted to the newly formed, 29TH Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (italiensche Nr. 1). Black wool construction, right hand side, unit designation collar tab features a machine embroidered, Pattée style cross with a circular centerpiece, superimposed over upward pointing, crossed swords, all in silvery/grey rayon threads. The collar tab is mounted on a tan buckram backing. Perfect textbook example.  Nice used example showing the expected   age and wear. Has some slight loss to the very right corner (see photos) otherwise almost mint. 100% Guaranteed to be authentic Brought home by a U.S. solider as a trophy of war.
