Original WWII Waffen SS SS-FREIWILLIGEN-KAVALLERIE-DIVISION “MARIA THERESIA” COLLAR TAB. (Kragenpatte) Certified. The 22ND SS-Freiwilligen-Kavallerie-Division “Maria Theresia”, (Volunteer Cavalry Division) was formed in April 1944 and consisted primarily of Hungarian personnel with a cavalry regiment, (3. Reiter-Regiment, later renumbered 17 Reiter-Regiment), from the 8. SS-Kavallerie-Division “Florian Geyer”. Due to the racial makeup of the personnel, Reichsfรผhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler forbade wear of the SS runes on the collar tab as he did not consider it to be a true SS division and divisional personnel were given authorization for use of a distinctive collar tab depicting a cornflower on its formation in April 1944. It is believed the German personnel of the Division wore the standard SS runic collar tabs while the cornflower collar tabs were issued to the Hungarian personnel on a limited basis. Interestingly the 4. Reiter-Regiment, (later renumbered 18 Reiter Regiment), which was established in August 1943, was given authorization to wear a collar tab with a cornflower until November 1943 when it was incorporated into the 8. SS-Kavallerie-Division “Florian Geyer”. Of Note: Although designated as a volunteer division most of the Hungarian personnel were actually conscripted. Also Of Note: The honor title, Maria Theresia was taken from the Hungarian queen who successfully ruled the country for a short period in the 1740’s. Right hand side, black wool construction collar tab with a nicely detailed, machine embroidered cornflower in silver/grey threads. The collar tab is mounted on a tan buckram backing. The collar tab is in overall excellent, un-issued condition with minimal age toning. Nice! The collar tab is mounted on a tan buckram backing. Perfect textbook example.ย  Nice used example showing the expected ย  age and wear. Has some slight loss to the very right corner (see photos) otherwise almost mint. 100% Guaranteed to be authentic Brought home by a U.S. solider as a trophy of war.
