Original WWII German Waffen SS EM/NCO’S M41/OVERSEAS CAP SKULL. (Tropen Mützentotenkopf) Brought Home By A U.S. Veteran Certified. The Allgemeine-SS, (General-SS), was originally formed in May 1923 as the Stosstrupp Adolf Hitler (Shock Troops Adolf Hitler), and was redesignated Schutzstaffel, (Protection Squad), in April 1925 with the official acceptance of the name verified on the second anniversary of the failed Munich “Beer-Hall” Putsch on November 9TH 1925. On January 6TH 1929 Heinrich Himmler was appointed as Reichsführer-SS, (National Leader {of the} SS), and on July 20TH 1934 shortly after the, June 30TH 1934, purge of the SA, Sturm Abteilung, (Storm Troopers) on the “Night of the Long Knives”, the SS was rewarded by Hitler by being granted the status of an independent organization under direct control of the NSDAP, Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (National Socialist German Worker’s Party). On October 6TH 1934 in an attempt to distance themselves from the SA, the SS introduced a new pattern cap skull to replace the previously used Imperial Prussian Danziger style skull. The machine woven example was first introduced sometime in 1939, and was based on the 1934, metal pattern skull. This pattern skull was designed for use on the overseas and M43 style caps although it was also occasionally utilized on the visor caps. The first official SS tropical headgear was introduced in February 1943 for wear in southern continental Europe and appropriate tropical insignia was also introduced. Of Note: The coloration of the tropical insignia was of a different shade then that of the earlier introduced, (December 1ST 1942), autumn camouflage insignia. BeVo, machine woven skull and cross bones in golden/tan rayon threads with black accent threads on a woven, black, rayon base. The skull features a bottom jaw, dual rows of teeth and nice eye, nose and cranium detailing. The skull is roughly, 35mm tall and 35mm wide at its widest point. The skull is still on its original, black, rayon factory roll and is in overall excellent, un-issued condition with minimal age toning. Recovered by a U.S. Solider from the Dachau Concentration Camp where the inmates made uniforms caps and insignia for the SS. In good condition. Complete museum documentation (COA) Provided. Certified by The Gettysburg Museum of History. 100% guaranteed to be authentic.
