Original WWII German M-42 Battle Damaged Helmet With Old Museum Tag Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History. The helmet has with spots of the original gray green paint just visible and some wear to the base metal.  All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The age and usage darkened tan M31 leather liner shows chafe wear to the edges and has numerous surface wear. It is stiff in some areas, but it is very soft and flexible and some of the fingers are intact. It does have some blood staining that effects the liner.  The reverse interior neck guard apron serial/lot number is partly visible “. this helmet has a through and through bullet or shrapnel strike and it looks like dried blood ran through the rivet onto the outside “a dead man’s helmet” It has an old museum metal plate attached.  This helmet is what collectors call a “One Looker” meaning it needs no scrutiny or closer looks to establish its authenticity.
