Original RARE OUTSTANDING M34 LUFTSCHUTZ HELMET. (Stahlhelm M34) Certified. Formed in late 1932 the Deutscher Luftschutzverband (German Air Protection League), was a voluntary organization designed to provide civil air raid protection in large civilian centers. Shortly after Hitler ascension to power the Deutscher Luftschutzverband was restructured and placed under the supervision of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium, (National Ministry of Aviation), under the control of Hermann Gรถring. On April 29TH 1933 the Deutscher Luftschutzverband was renamed RLB, Reichs Luftschutz Bund, (National Air Raid Protection League) and was given status as an official national organization tasked with all aspects of civil air raid defense. The RLB remained a voluntary organization with a small cadre of paid, full-time uniformed officials to oversee the organizations functions until June 1935 when obligatory service was introduced. The RLB, work in close association with the SHD, Sicherheits und Hilfs Dienst, (Security and Assistance Service), the Werkschutz, (Factory Protection Police) and the Ordnungspolizei, (Order Police). ย Stamped sheet steel construction, civic M34 “square dip” style helmet retains about 90% of its original field grey. Under the grey is the original apple green paint so this might have been a police or SS helmet originally and was repurposed for Luftschutz use. The front center of the helmet has a black detailed, silver, Luftschutz decal which features stylized spread wings with a central oak-leaf sprig and a canted swastika positioned below a scripted banner, “Luftschutz”. The decal is retained about 95%. The helmet has two separate, embossed, groups of seven, “salt & pepper” ventilation holes positioned on each side of the crown. All four of the flat headed liner retaining rivets are intact. The interior of the helmet has a M31 civic style, leather liner with ventilation perforations to the front forehead section the liner has all seven fingers. The liner is well marked with black numeral, “55”. All four of the natural cork spacers positioned between the liner and the helmet shell are still intact. Chinstrap is missing. Original owners name inside. VERY Hard to find helmet. Nice helmet. Typical slight storage wear. Complete museum documentation (COA) Provided.
