Original RARE German NSKK Ground Röhm Presentation Dagger By Carl Schmidt Brought Home By A U.S. Veteran Certified. early NSKK EM Dagger is equipped with all nickel mounts. The cross guards are in good condition. These guards have smooth surfaces with crisp edges and precise accent grooves. The grip is in perfect condition showing little usage. The SA runes button has good enamel. The grip eagle is the nickel type. The details to this bird are all there throughout his head, breast and wing feathering, talons, wreath and mobile swastika. The scabbard shell is straight throughout. This shell has been period painted black as per the NSKK orders of 1936. This black paint is still in quite a good condition showing some scratches, chips and age but overall is at least about 95%. The scabbard mounts are the nickel variety in overall good condition. The lower ball does have a small tap to the bottom but there is no crushing or splitting. These mounts are retained by the original nickel screws and they are nice. There is an original to the piece short hanger. This hanger has dark brown leather and is complete with the small retainer loop. Nicely marked. The blade of this example is still fairly bright but I have a feeling it has been buffed that way as there is no darkening left in the etch backgrounds of this SA motto. Normally on a dagger by Carl Schmidt we see fairly dark mottos so this is a sign that the blade has been cleaned fairly severely, this was during the grinding off of the Rohm inscription. The grind marks are very well buffed out but can still be seen and especially under magnification. This blade still grades at about good/fair. The reverse ricasso is etched with the fine Carl Schmidt logo which consists of a cabin. Below this the firm’s full name and location are in capital letters in two lines, “Carl Schmidt Sohyn A-G Solingen”. When Ernst Rohm was executed after the “Night Of The Long Knives” his presentation daggers were ordered to have his name removed. The big issue with this dagger is that the vet who brought it home must have thought putting a layer of varnish on the mounts was a good idea. This could be restored if the new owner wants to do it (we priced it accordingly). Nice period used NSKK Dagger captured by a U.S. Veteran and brought home as a war trophy. Nice used example showing the expected age and wear. 100% Guaranteed to be authentic Brought home by a solider as a trophy of war. A very desirable an outstanding example. Don’t miss this one!
