Original German NSDAP (NAZI PARTY) SA (Brown Shirts) Dagger Brought Home By A U.S. Veteran Certified. This early SA Dagger is in fine condition throughout. The cross guards are great and the tang nut does not look to have been turned. The grip is in good condition. The SA runes button is in good condition. The nickel grip eagle: this bird shows only modest wear. The wood grip is outstanding the scabbard shell is a fine example and straight throughout. The “anodized” finish is completely intact, with some of the factory lacquer (some small scratching).ย The scabbard mounts are in very nice condition, with a good finish.ย It is an early example with nickel hardware. The blade is good, with some visible cross grain and nice deep, dark SA motto. The dark and crisp acid etched “Alles fรผr Deutschland” motto.ย The SA motto is very nice.ย The reverse ricasso is matching etched with the trademark logo of Aesculap-Werke AG of Tuttlingen in Wรผrttemberg, a company that still exists today as a major maker of surgical instruments. Their logo is the well-known “S-form” serpent coiled around a ball-headed staff, the “Rod of Aesculapius”, the Greek God of medicine, under a crown. This trademark is on the back of the blade, surrounded by: “AESCULP (CROWN) +(ROD of AESCULAPIUS) + TUTTLINGENย ย Per J. Anthony Carter’s book GERMAN KNIFE AND SWORD MAKERS, this firm was originally founded by Gottfried Jetter in 1867, and in 1887 he partnered with the Scheerer brothers to form Jetter & Scheerer. By 1895, they recognized the limitations of a family business, and formally incorporated. They built a new factory and registered the trademark Aesculap. The company used this particular “round” trademark on very early SA and NSKK daggers, which they made only made a small number of. The reverse of the lower cross guard is Gruppe stamped “SW” the bottom scabbard ball does have dents (see photo). A nice, period used SA Dagger captured by a U.S. Veteran and brought home as a war trophy. Nice used example showing the expected age and wear. 100% Guaranteed to be authentic. Donโt miss this one!
