Dr. Joseph Goebbels Original Two Times Life-Size Bronze Bust Certified. . Dr. Joseph Goebbels 29 October 1897 – 1 May 1945) was a German Nazi politician who was the Gauleiter (district leader) of Berlin, chief propagandist for the Nazi Party, and then Reich Minister of Propaganda from 1933 to 1945. He was one of Adolf Hitler’s closest and most devoted acolytes, known for his skills in public speaking and his deeply virulent antisemitism, which was evident in his publicly voiced views. He advocated progressively harsher discrimination, including the extermination of the Jews in the Holocaust. Once in a lifetime opportunity. Joseph Goebbels 2x Life Bronze Bust by Thorak. 2x life-size bronze bust of Joseph Goebbels, one of the rarest busts to find of all of the major 3rd Reich personalities. Quoting one of the top experts on German bronze art, “Goebbels busts of any size just don’t exist – they’re that rare.” This was almost certainly a commissioned piece. The bust stands in total about 20 inches high, base included. It’s all original including the base and bolt. The total weight is 47 pounds or 22 KG. We place a cap on the head in one photo for a size comparison (see photos). The foundry mark is Noack of Berlin which is still in business today. This item has never been on the market before, coming out of a 60+ year collection.This bust was sculpted by famous German-Austrian artist Josef Thorak. He became known for oversize monumental sculptures, particularly of male figures, and was one of the most prominent sculptors of the 3rd Reich era.After the Nazis came to power in 1933, Thorak took advantage of friendships with many prominent members of the Party. He sculpted busts of Joseph Goebbels and Ernst Hanfstaengl in addition to Mustafa Kemal. After the death of Paul von Hindenburg in August 1934, Thorak sculpted his death mask. He sculpted a bust of Mussolini which was given as an official gift by AH in 1940. For a bust of Hitler, he stayed for several days in 1936 at The Berghof while completing the project. Along with Arno Breker, Thorak became one of the two “official sculptors” of the 3rd Reich.
