Original OUTSTANDING ALMOST MINT WWII GERMAN POLICE POLIZEI UN-SLOTTED, “STAG GRIP” Clam Shell BAYONET. (Seitengewehr für Polizei) Wirth Leather Frog Certified. On June 17TH 1936, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler was appointed to the newly created position of Chef der Deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern, (Chief of the German Police in the National Ministry of the Interior), effectively giving him full control of all police agencies within Germany. As a result of this appointment and the restructuring of all the separate German state police into a single national police force new regulations were instituted in July 1936 to bring about uniformity in dress for all police through-out the country. One of the new uniform regulations was the introduction of a standardized bayonet based on the earlier Prussian Landespolizei bayonet. The bayonet came in a un-slotted dress model and a “T” slotted service model. This WWII Clamshell Police Bayonet is a choice example. The blade on this piece is very nice , with outstanding original luster to the plating. There is a manufacturer marking on the blade “F.W. Holler . The handle on this piece is gorgeous, with appealing light honey tones to the real stag grips. The Polizei wreathed eagle and swastika emblem on the grip is intact, and nicely detailed. The clam shell fitting with eagle ornamentation is loose, which is common for these. The ” plating on the metalwork on the handle is clean, intact, and bright. This WWII Clamshell Police Bayonet is complete with its replaced  leather-covered scabbard. The metal fittings on the scabbard are bright, with no damage, and the leather is intact, with virtually all of the original surface and strong color. This scabbard was added since the original was lost along the way but it matches really well. (priced accordingly)   This is a really nice piece, in excellent plus condition.  Nice example.
