OUTSTANDING Original German NSDAP (NAZI PARTY) SA (Brown Shirts) Dagger By VERY RARE MAKER Fritz Barthelmess Bavaria With Hanger Brought Home By A U.S. Veteran Certified. The blade on this one looks good. The crossgrain looks great, the fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The acid etched “Alles fur Deutschland” motto and large “Fritz Barthelmess Bavaria” maker mark are both beautifully executed! Not much is known about the Fritz Barthelmess company in Muggendorf in Bayern. Come the Third Reich era, early SA daggers were manufactured-Fisher estimates 5,000. Though it is likely less than that. By 1935, Barthelmess did not receive an RZM license. It is presumed that the company ceased trading after the war. The blade rates a solid Exc++. It has a few dots or age and in/out marks. The brown anodized scabbard shows wear and remains dent free! The solid nickel scabbard fittings look good with some small hits from normal wear and nice matching patina. The ball has taken a small hit as shown. All four screws remain intact! The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a pleasing snap! The solid nickel crossguards are in excellent condition. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gruppe stamped “Fr”. The grip / crossguard fits are perfect! The brown multi-toned hardwood grip is chip and crack-free, it does has small bumps again exactly what we expect to see on used original examples. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed with a perfect fit. The SA roundel also has a perfect fit and retains most of its enamel. It has it’s original leather hanger as found.
