Original WWII German M-42  Camo Helmet Brought Home By A U.S. Veteran Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History. The helmet retains about 65% of its field-applied, camouflage paint in shade of green-tans,  with spots of the original gray green paint just visible and some wear to the base metal. . All three liner retaining rivets  are intact. The age and usage darkened tan M31 leather liner shows chafe wear to the edges and has numerous surface wear. It looks stiff but it is very soft and flexible and some of the fingers are intact. It does have some blood staining that effects the liner  The reverse interior neck guard apron   serial/lot number, “1875”. The interior left side apron has stamped manufacturers code and size, “hkp62”, indicating manufacture by hkp (SE – Sächsische Emailler-und Stanzewerke) , size 62. . Chin strap is broken but still there. The rope on the liner is an old replacement made of twine. This helmet is what collectors call a “One Looker” meaning it needs no scrutiny or closer looks to establish it’s authenticity.
