Original German NSDAP (NAZI PARTY) Hitler Youth Stick Pin NATIONAL YOUTH SPORTS Badge (Reichsjugendsportabzeichen Aufschlagnadel),ย Sports in the early period of the Third Reich had an underlying, subversive role as a form of military training, due to the restrictions imposed on the Germans by the Treaty of Versailles. As a result, sporting events were very highly regarded by the NSDAP and all manner of awards were issued on a national and local level to the victorious athletes. Even after the treaty was ignored, and military conscription imposed, sporting events for the German youth were still held in high esteem as pre-military training and toughening-up exercises. A badge awarded to a Hitler Youth who had achieved an above average score in three sports contests. The DRA, “Deutsches Reichssportabzeichen” (German National-sport-badge), established the RJA, “Reichsjugendsportabzeichen” (National-youth-sport-badge) in 1925 for children under the age of 18. Awarded only in silver, it was extended to females in 1928, and a swastika was added to the badge in 1937. The award was discontinued in 1942.
